Green Team
The Green Team is a workforce development program and social enterprise of CH/SFSC, working to create and sustain safe, clean, and welcoming environments for businesses and residents across Washington, D.C. neighborhoods.
Since 2006, the Green Team has provided life skills, employability training, job development, and job retention services for residents re-entering our communities, and for residents with insufficient employment skills.
The Green Team is currently composed of ten teams, totaling 47 members, who perform green collar jobs in small business corridors, such as green space maintenance, street cleaning, graffiti removal, and landscaping, among many other beautification activities. In 2010, these teams served 14 different neighborhoods throughout Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8. By providing employment and serving as a transitional program, the Green Team assists in stabilizing economic growth and promoting esteem in the neighborhood in which many of the Green Team members live.

- 81% of members maintained employment for 3 months or more.
- 17% of members were promoted to crew chief during their tenure.
- 9% of members transitioned from the team to other employment.
- 3 new green jobs partners were recruited to train Green Team staff in rain barrel installation, rain garden installation, weatherization, energy auditing, and other aspects of the green economy.
- 14 neighborhoods served, throughout Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8

In FY 2011, the Green Team will continue to build meaningful partnerships with local businesses and business associations to create community support, and to expand safe and clean environments throughout our communities.
